This week has been so much fun. My mom flew in on Monday, the 17th. Scott has been underway, and Mom was going to spend the anniversary with me, and the following week. It turns out that Scott had pulled pier side, for the ship to quickly fix something, and although he wasn't able to get off the ship at all, my mom treated us to dinner at Olive Garden, and we picked it up to go, brought it on the ship, and had a great anniversary evening with Scott aboard the Ike!
The ship pulled out again the next day, and Mom and I have spent the past week just hanging out and having fun. She came with me to get my hair done, we spent some time in a cute little town close to VAB called Smithfield, we of course went shopping! And shopping! And shopping some more! It was so nice to have her here. From hanging out and reading to playing card games, it was just a blast.
She's on her way home as I type now, and I'm really going to miss her (so is Dixie). She and my dad will be back in early January, to celebrate an extended Christmas with us. That will be a good time--visitors while Scott's home??! Unheard of!
Our next guest will be arriving soon...and Scott will be home for that, as well! High times around the Gifford Household! Scott's mom is flying out with a mystery guest in mid-October--we're really excited to show her around and have her stay with us! This will be the first opportunity she's had to get down here, so we plan on making the most of it!
In the meantime...biding my time again until Scott's back home. Thank god Mom was here to help make this long underway go by a little more quickly.

Hinting At Fall
{Nicky}
Today I went to the beach with my friend, Bre. It was a cooler day for us--low 80s, and the sky was overcast, even spitting a little at times, but it was nice to sit on the sand, still warm between my toes, and just breathe in the water and the air.
Tonight now, as I get ready for bed, I can hear it raining outside. Not a heavy, dusty summer rain, but a light fall rain...the kind that makes the night a little cooler, and taps and trickles at your windows, to let you know that it is only a matter of time before fall is here.
A good night to snuggle up and sleep.

The Answer Is Yes!
{Nicky}
We got so wrapped up in corralling everything for our trip back home, that we failed to inform everyone (outside of those we saw the night before we left) that the MN house did indeed sell! We had been waiting on the approval of one final inspection, and found out the night before we left for VA that it went through. Hurray! That, my friends, is one good thing done!
Scott is back at sea today. Yesterday, we got a little "cheat" day...he was supposed to be aboard yesterday (the nukes are always required to be aboard one day earlier than when the ship pulls out) but the day before (Tuesday, since this is getting a little confusing...) so, on Tuesday, he was home at 6pm, and then was called back into work at 9pm that night! ARGH! Something needed immediate attention, and he and three others were called in to deal. He thought he would be home by 2am, but when I woke up at 4:30am he wasn't in bed yet. He finally slid in a little before 6am. So he was able to stay home yesterday, with me, instead of going aboard! Yay! We had a great day, doing little errands and nothing at all. Scott bought a new IPod, and thanks to some friends of ours, we had a nice dinner at the Olive Garden. (Kevin and Gabbie gave us a gift cert. for our anniversary!) It was a wonderful day. Of course, this morning, Scott had to be back to the ship by 3am. Bleh. Boy oh boy...the yards can not come fast enough!
So. He's gone for a couple weeks, but all I have to do is make it to Monday, the 17th! In addition to being our anniversary, and Steve and Wendi's anniversary, my mom is flying in that day to spend a week with me! Hurray for moms! I'm excited to have her here...it's always nice to hear someone else knocking around the house with you!

Routines
{Nicky}
Yes. It's me again. The apparent spokeswoman for this blog.
We're home again. Scott went back to the ship today, and I am catching up on our laundry, so our respective routines begin again. The trip home was fairly uneventful. The only "major" thing we had to deal with upon our arrival was the clean-up from an exploded soda bottle in our fridge. I put it on the top shelf before we left, and apparently it's chilly up there!
The animals are all happy to be back. Dixie's new thing lately is laying on the couch opposite the back patio door, so that she can catch glimpse of anyone who walks around behind our fence. When she spots an intruder (usually the neighborhood roaming black cat) she races to the door, barking her heart out, while throwing furtive glances over her shoulder at me to make sure I am on my way to let her out into the yard to contend with the offender. Ah, a dog's life.
Well. I have procrastinated the house cleaning long enough. I have to get crackin'. Scott is going underway again in a couple of days, and will be gone over our 2 year anniversary, so we are going out to celebrate it tonight. That will be a nice way to round up our first day back to reality!

'Vacation' Is Such A Relative Term...
{Nicky}
So here we are, safe and sound again in the Midwest. We've been absolutely running since we've been back. We had the Gifford family reunion this past weekend, which was so much fun! The event was so well planned, and Grandma Carolyn was very surprised. It was a blast watching her reaction as she walked into the room! Meeting so many members of Scott's extended family was also really great...the whole thing was wonderful!
Between spending quality time with our families, we've also been running around Rochester, trying to finish repairs from the water damage in the house, and preparing for the closing on the sale of the home, which will hopefully be happening this Friday. It all hinges on the inspector's finds for the buyers' FHA loan approval...whatever happens, we're ready either way. Hopefully we'll know for sure later today.
We're disappointed that we don't have more time to spend up here. It seems like there is still so many things we want to do before we leave, so many people to still visit with. Luckily, those that we weren't able to catch up with this time for the most part understand, which we so appreciate. It's hard when people take it personally, the fact that we literally have run out of time for the things that we want to do. This is a vacation for us, and we are happy to see the families, but as far as vacations go...this has been another working one, what with the house and all.
Like I said...never enough time...
