The Ike is kicking our a** again. First, Scott was so close to coming home today. Then they pushed it back to tomorrow. Then he wasn't off the ship till Friday morning. Then they moved it up to tomorrow night. Now they've changed it yet AGAIN so that he's not off until Friday night. And we get to get up and haul back by 4a.m. Saturday morning for the FUN DAY CRUISE. Which, if last year is any indication, promises to be not-as-fun-as-advertised. So we're planning on bringing our own fun.
But today, we're both just really tired of it all. And it's only just begun...again.

Taking the Technology Plunge
{Nicky}
I've finally been talked into joining Facebook. I'm excited about the instant chatting, especially since we're so far from our loved ones. Also, I heard you can play Oregon Trail, and that was reason enough to join!

Things Change

As I left CW today, it seemed as if I were just leaving for the weekend. In fact, my farewell had little to no fanfare...just a reminder to fill in my time card, and a 'goodbye.' Which, honestly, struck me as sad, because I gave a lot to that place, and I gave my best.
But, upward and onward...now I prepare again for life as a Navy Wife Nomad. And in the vein of preparation, we had an open house today, and I, after seeing a few people that walked through the house, came to the realization that I hate open houses. In my home, at least. There were some shady people in off the street, and while they all weren't like that, it prompted a thorough cleaning when the house was closed again to the public, and it was just me, the cats, and my bleach and water solution.
Sometimes I long for that quiet spot in our lives, that always seems to be just on the horizon. And then, I find myself wondering...how bored will we be when/if we get there??
On an exciting note, my friend Gabbie got to meet Barack Obama (he was speaking here in the area), and speak to him in person yesterday, regarding concerns of a military wife. She was gracious, and included some of my thoughts while talking to him (I was babysitting her son), which touched both Scott and I deeply. So, you see, sometimes the drama around here is fun drama!

I Should Have Quit Yesterday...
{Nicky}
If I had, I wouldn't have had to clean up small-child feces off the pavement in the playground today! I realize that someone had to do it, and I was the 'floater' at the time, so to speak, but man... not an event I'm eager to repeat. "Making a difference in a child's life" took on a whole new meaning today. Uff da.

I'm sorry things are so slow here. Interesting blogs are few and far between these days. My parents are celebrating their 35th Anniversary today!! And Scott's will soon be celebrating their 40th! What amazing examples of love we have to live up to!
Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!!

Filling In The Days
{Nicky}
Today was a day full of little things, which helps a day pass more quickly. Gabbie and I met up for lunch. We took in a (small, not very inspiring) craft show, then passed some time at the mall. Later, I hit the grocery store, and came home for some laundry catch-up. Now, I am wrapping up for the evening, hoping Scott will be able to call. Only one more Saturday without him!

Deafening Silence
{Nicky}
It's amazing how much racket two dogs can make. And how quiet it is when they're gone, and Scott's gone, and the cat movement is limited to switching napping spots.
Scott will be gone for over 2 weeks now, which, to be blunt, just plain sucks. I got used to having him around, and of course, this past week (god...has it been a week already?...) it has been essential for us to lean on each other.
Duty calls, as always, so while he's away, my main focus is on the continued packing of the house. I also have put in my two week notice at CW, so my last day there will be next Friday. As Scott's underways get more and more intense, I plan on spending a lot of time in MN. A big dose of family seems to be just what I need.

The Wedding Ring Near Disaster
{Nicky}
In an effort to let go of things weighing on the mind, Scott took me to the beach today. It was a gorgeous day, and we had a good time. Scott likes the beach because we have a sun tent that is 50spf, so once it is all set up, he's ready to kick back and people watch. I enjoy it because I am very convincing, and Scott will go swimming with me if I play my cards right! So we had a nice time, doing all of the above and a picnic lunch.
When it came time to pack up, Scott rolled up our little sun tent, and as we were putting it into the bag, he suddenly waved his hand in front of my face, going "Uh oh!! LOOK! LOOK!" I stared at his hand, thinking....Look at what? His hand is...tan? Peeling? WHAT? He gives me this 'duh' look and says, "MY WEDDING RING IS GONE!"
So begins the hunt. We tread carefully, looking for a glint in the sand, when finally we decided to pull out the tent and unroll it. Sure enough, after a few breathless minutes, the tent unfurled enough to send the ring tumbling into the sand (Where, I might add, had I not seen where it had fallen, it nestled and camouflaged right in.) So, crisis adverted.
A quick stop for ice cream, and we were on our way home!

Puppy Power
{Nicky}
Without our daily kisses from our two pups, Scott and I have been feeling the need for a substitution. Today, for the first time in days, we genuinely smiled and laughed aloud. All thanks to a little yellow lab in a pet store. We held her, played with her, loved her. And she in turn gave us the gift of happiness. Thanks, Little Princess.
We can't wait to see you again, Jacky and Dixie!
